Cruise Control Switch Circuit
- Remove ECM, leaving wiring harnesses connected. See Figure. Using DVOM connected to ground, backprobe ECM connector E5, terminal No. 6 (Red/Yellow wire). See Figure. If reading is about 12 volts, go to next step. If reading is not about 12 volts, check for an open in Red/Yellow wire between ECM connector E5 and ETCS (15-amp) fuse located in engine compartment fuse block.NOTE: Red/Yellow wire travels through main wire harness in-line Orange connector, terminal No. 4 located at left rear quarter panel of engine compartment. Check in-line Orange connector for damage and ensure good terminal contact exists.
- Backprobe ECM connector E2, terminal No. 1 (Black/Yellow wire). See Figure. If reading is about 12 volts, go to next step. If reading is not about 12 volts, check for an open in Black/Yellow wire between ECM connector E5 and EFI 1 (15-amp) fuse located in engine compartment fuse block.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect ECM connector E2. Using DVOM connected to ground, measure resistance at ECM connector E2, terminal No 19 (Black/Blue wire) with cruise control switch stalk lever in appropriate position. See CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH CIRCUIT CHECK table. If all readings are as specified, go to step 5. If all resistance readings are not as specified, go to next step. If any reading is not as specified, check cruise control switch. See CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS. Replace faulty cruise control switch.CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH CIRCUIT CHECK
Cruise Control Switch Stalk Lever Position Ohms CANCEL 1540 RES/ACC 240 SET/COAST 630 - Inspect Black/Blue wire between ECM connector E2, terminal No. 19, through terminal No. 3 of in-line 9-pin harness connector IC3, then to cruise control switch Black 6-pin connector. Check engine compartment harness-to-instrument panel harness in-line 9-pin harness connector IC3 located behind driver-side kick panel for damage or poor terminal contact. Repair any fault found in Black/Blue wire as necessary, then retest cruise control switch circuit.
- Ensure ignition switch is off. Disconnect ECM connector E5. See Figure. Check for continuity between ground and ECM connector E5, terminal No. 8 (White/Black wire). Continuity should exist at all times. If continuity does not exist, repair open between ground and White/Black wire as necessary, then retest cruise control switch circuit. If continuity to ground exists, cruise control switch circuit is okay.
