Key Interlock System Circuit Troubleshooting
- Check the A/T system DTC's with the HDS.
Are DTC's P0705 and/or P0706 indicated?
YES -Do to DTC troubleshooting P0705 (see DTC P0705: SHORT IN TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH CIRCUIT (MULTIPLE SHIFT-POSITION INPUT) ) and/or P0706 (see DTC P0706: OPEN IN TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH CIRCUIT ).
NO -Go to next step.
- Move the shift lever to P and set the parking brake.
- Remove the column covers (see COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSRALLATION ).
- Disconnect the steering lock assembly 6P connector.
- Turn the ignition switch to ACCESSORY (I).
- Check if the ignition switch can be turned to LOCK (0).
Can the ignition switch be turned to LOCK (0)?
YES -Go to next step.
NO -Faulty ignition key cylinder; Replace the steering lock (see STEERING LOCK REPLACEMENT ).
- Check the No. B18 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES -Go to next step.
NO -Replace the fuse. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground on the No.B18 (7.5A) fuse circuit.
- Make sure the ignition switch is turned to LOCK (0).
- Remove the driver's dashboard cover (see DRIVER'S DASHBOARD LOWER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
- Disconnect connector Q (20P) from the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
- Check for continuity between steering lock 6P connector terminal No. 4 and body ground.

Is there continuity?
YES -Repair a short to body ground in the wire between the key interlock solenoid and the driver's MICU.
NO -Go to next step.
- Check for continuity between driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector Q (20P) terminal No. 17 and steering lock 6P connector terminal No. 4.Fig 2: Checking Continuity Between Park Pin Switch/A/T Gear Position Indicator Panel Light 6P Connector Terminal No. 6 And Body Ground

Is there continuity?
YES -Go to next step.
NO -Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between the key interlock solenoid and the driver's MICU.
- Move the shift lever to P.
- Remove the center console panel (see CENTER CONSOLE PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
- Disconnect the A/T gear position indicator panel light 6P connector.
- Do the park pin switch test (see Park Pin Switch Test
).
Is the switch OK?
YES -Go to next step.
NO -Check the park pin switch installation. If the switch installation is OK, the park pin switch is faulty; replace the A/T gear position indicator panel light/park pin switch (see PARK PIN SWITCH REPLACEMENT ), and retest.

Is there continuity?
YES -Go to next step.
NO -Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between park pin switch/A/T gear position indicator panel light and body ground (G403).
- Check the A/T System Data List with the HDS.
Is the transmission range switch indicated ON when the shift lever is in P, and is the transmission range switch indicator OFF when the shift lever is shifted to any position other than P?
YES -Go to 21
NO -Go to next step.
- Do the transmission range switch test (see TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH TEST
page
).
is the switch OK?
YES -Go to next step.
NO -Check the transmission range switch installation. If the switch installation is OK, replace the switch (see TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH REPLACEMENT ) and retest.
- Disconnect the transmission range switch connector.
- Check for continuity between driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector F (33P) terminal No. 23 and transmission range switch connector terminal No. 9.Fig 5: Checking Continuity Between Driver's Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box Connector F (33P) Terminal No. 23 And Body Ground
