Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the tester on
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
    5. Read the DTCs (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR )

    Results:

    TYPICAL ENABLING CONDITIONS

    Result Proceed to
    DTC P0607 and P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158 are output A
    DTC P0607 is output B

    B: GO TO STEP   3

    A: Go to Next Step

  2. INSPECT DTC (P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 OR P0158)

    (a) Inspect the P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158 flow chart.

    HINT:

    • If P0136 or P0156 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (see INSPECTION PROCEDURE . Then proceed to "INSPECT HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU" (See step  6).
    • If P0137or P0157 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (see INSPECTION PROCEDURE . Then proceed to "INSPECT HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU" (See step  6).
    • If P0138or P0158 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (see INSPECTION PROCEDURE . Then proceed to "INSPECT HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU" (See step  6).
    • If DTC P0606 and P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158 are output, the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor may remain close to 0 V or become high (around 1 V or more).

NEXT:  "INSPECT HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU" (See step  6).

  3. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK
    1. Allow the engine to idle and rev the engine.
    2. Check for exhaust gas leaks around the heated oxygen sensor.

If any exhaust gas leaks are present, repair it and proceed to "PERFORM CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN".

If no exhaust gas leaks are present, proceed to "PERFORM CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN".

      Refer to step  4.

    HINT:

    • If no exhaust gas leaks are present, a malfunction in the heated oxygen sensor circuit is suspected.
    • If any exhaust gas leaks are present around the heated oxygen sensor, noise appears in the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor.

    NEXT: Go to Next Step

  4. PERFORM CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
    1. Clear the DTC (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Warm up the engine until the engine coolant temperature becomes 75° (167°F) or more.
    4. Perform the drive pattern:
      1. Accelerate the vehicle until 80 km/h (50 mph) and stop the vehicle.
      2. Drive the vehicle by 60 to 80 km/h (35 to 50 mph) for 5 minutes or more.

    Result Proceed to
    DTC P0607 and P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158 are output A
    DTC P0607 is output B
    DTC is not output C

C: INSPECT HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU  (See STEP 6)

B: REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU  (See REMOVAL )

    A: Go to Next Step

Then proceed to "INSPECT HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU" (See ).

  6. INSPECT HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU
    1. Clear the DTC (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).
    2. Stop the engine and wait for 30 minutes.
    3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    4. Start the engine and allow it to idle for 2 minutes.
    5. Turn the Techstream on.
    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
    7. Read the DTCs.
