System Operation Check
- Description
If a malfunction occurs with cruise control system, or any system that supports the cruise control system operation, ECM actuates auto-cancel function. Auto-cancel function cancels cruise control operation and turns off CRUISE indicator light to inform driver of a malfunction. At same time, DTC and freeze frame data overwrites previously stored freeze frame data. Cruise control system DTC information is only available during the ignition cycle which it occurred, and not retained after ignition switch is turned off.
- System Operation Check
Turn ignition switch to ON position. Test drive vehicle at a constant speed greater than 25 MPH. While monitoring CRUISE indicator, depress CRUISE ON-OFF switch and ensure CRUISE indicator is illuminated. Verify cruise control system maintains set speed. Depress CRUISE ON-OFF switch again. Ensure CRUISE indicator light is not illuminated. If CRUISE indicator light turns on and off as described, there are no faults currently present with cruise control system.
- If cruise control indicator flickers, does not illuminate or does not turn on and off as previously described, DO NOT turn ignition switch to OFF position. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Also, check for any other system malfunctions or DTCs stored that may have canceled cruise control operation (ABS control module, TCM, etc.). Diagnose and repair any faults found in other systems, as necessary.
- If no DTCs, freeze frame data information or any other system DTCs are stored, then diagnose cruise control system fault by symptom. See SYMPTOM TESTS table.
