Self-Diagnostic System: Notes

WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.

Check for other system DTCs before diagnosing cruise control system. When a malfunction occurs with cruise control system operation, CRUISE indicator light will be turned off or may flash. When a malfunction occurs, freeze frame data is stored in ECM memory and related DTC information may be stored in ECM memory. DTCs stored can only be displayed during ignition cycle in which malfunction occurred. If ignition switch is turned to OFF position, DTC information will be erased. If a malfunction occurred during cruise control operation, DO NOT turn ignition switch to OFF position. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES . Using an OBD-II compatible scan tool or Toyota hand held tester is the optimal method of diagnosis.
