Cruise Control Switch Circuit
- Turn ignition and cruise control switches to ON position. While observing CRUISE indicator light, individually press and hold SET/COAST, RESUME/ACCEL and CANCEL switches. See Fig 1. If CRUISE light signal patterns are not as specified, go to next step. If CRUISE light signal patterns are as specified, no problem is indicated at this time. Fault may be intermittent. If sent here from SYMPTOM TESTING, perform next test listed.
- Remove cruise control ECU with connectors connected. See Figure. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DVOM connected to ground, measure voltage by backprobing ECU harness connector C15 terminal No. 11 (Light Green wire). See Figure. With cruise ON-OFF switch in OFF position, battery voltage should exist. With cruise ON-OFF switch in ON position, voltage should be less than .5 volt. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step. If voltage is as specified, no problem is indicated at this time. Fault may be intermittent. If sent here from SYMPTOM TESTING, perform next test listed.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disable air bag system. See
AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Remove steering wheel center pad (air bag module). Disconnect cruise control switch 6-pin connector. Check for continuity between cruise control switch terminals No. 4 and 5. See Fig 2. No continuity should exist with cruise ON-OFF switch in OFF position. Continuity should exist with cruise ON-OFF switch held in ON position. If continuity is as specified, go to next step. If continuity is not as specified, replace cruise control switch and retest system.
- Disconnect spiral cable assembly 6-pin harness connectors. Check for continuity between spiral cable harness connectors "A" and "B"terminals No. 2 and 3. See Fig 3. Continuity should exist. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace spiral cable assembly and retest system.
- Check wiring harness and connectors between cruise control ECU, cruise control switch and ground. Repair as necessary and retest system. If wiring harness and connectors are okay, replace cruise control ECU and retest system.
