Fast Idle Check/Adjust

  1. Set parking brake. Ensure all accessories are off and transmission is in Neutral. Ensure ignition timing, idle speed and mixture are correct and engine is at normal operating temperature.
  2. Check that float level is at correct level in sight glass on carburetor and choke valve is fully open. Connect tachometer to proper terminals. See Fig 1.
  3. Remove air cleaner. Disconnect and plug the Mixture Control (MC), Hot Air Intake (HAI), choke opener and EGR valve hoses. See Fig 2.
  4. Hold throttle valve slightly open. Push choke valve closed and release throttle valve. Ensure fast idle cam is on the highest step. Start engine without depressing the accelerator.
  5. Check and adjust fast idle to specification by turning fast idle adjusting screw. See FAST IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATION  table. Reconnect hoses.
