Ignition Timing

CAUTION: Do not allow tachometer terminal to become grounded. This can damage igniter and/or coil.

Engine must be at operating temperature. Connect tachometer and timing light to engine. Connect test probe of tachometer to negative (-) terminal of coil, or remove rubber cap and connect probe to service connector on distributor (if equipped). Adjust idle speed to specifications.
On Corolla models with carburetor, disconnect and plug INBOARD distributor vacuum line only.
On Corolla models with EFI, short across the service connector (near firewall) terminals T and E(1) with (Green Black/ Brown, Green Red/Brown or Green Yellow/Brown) colored wires. On MR2 models, short across service connector terminals T and E(1).
On all models, adjust timing by turning distributor.
