Removal & Installation - A/T: Installation
- Measure drive plate runout with dial indicator. If runout exceeds .079" (.20mm), or if ring gear is damaged, replace drive plate. If installing new drive plate, note positioning of spacers and tighten with new bolts.
- Measure torque converter sleeve runout. If runout exceeds .012" (.30mm), try to correct by repositioning converter. If runout cannot be corrected in this manner, torque converter must be replaced. Be sure to mark position of converter to ensure correct installation.
- Apply grease to center hub of torque converter and pilot hole in drive plate. Install torque converter in transmission. Refill with rest ATF. Check torque converter installation.
- Using calipers and a straightedge, measure from center hub to front surface of transmission housing. Ensure that distance is .79" (20mm). Install guide pin in torque converter. Install transmission assembly. Align guide pin with a drive plate hole.
- Align upper starter stud with hole on engine plate. Align 2 sleeves on block with converter housing. Tighten transmission housing mounting bolts. Install and tighten torque converter bolts.
- To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Fill transmission with automatic transmission fluid. Road test vehicle for proper operation of all functions.
