Stall Test
NOTE:
The object of this test is to check the overall performance of the transmission and engine by measuring the maximum engine speed at the "D" and "R" ranges. Perform test with fluid at normal operating temperature.
- Chock front wheels. Install an engine tachometer. Fully apply parking brake. Step down strongly on brake pedal with left foot. Start engine. Shift into "D" range. Step down fully on accelerator pedal with right foot. Quickly read highest engine RPM under these conditions.
CAUTION: DO NOT perform this test for longer than 5 seconds.
- If engine speed is the same for both ranges but lower than specifications, engine output may be insufficient or stator one-way clutch may not be operating properly.NOTE: If more than 600 RPM below specifications, torque converter may be faulty.
- If stall speed in "D" range is higher than specifications, front clutch may be slipping, one-way clutch No. 2 may not be operating properly or line pressure may be too low.
- If stall speed in "R" range is higher than specifications, rear clutch may be slipping, brake No. 3 may be slipping or line pressure may be too low.
