Fuel System Inspection: Troubleshooting

TROUBLESHOOTING CHART

Step Action YES NO
1  Fuel pump inspection 
  1. Remove fuel filler cap and turn ignition switch to ON position.
  2. Confirm that fuel pump operating sound is heard from fuel filler port for about 2 sec. and then it stops.

Is it in good condition? 		 Go to Step 2. Check fuel pump circuit. See FUEL PUMP AND ITS CIRCUIT CHECK .
2  Fuel pressure check 
  1. Check fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE CHECK .

Is it in good condition? 		 Go to Step 3. Repair or replace defective part.
3  Power balance test 
  1. Check power balance. See POWER BALANCE TEST .

Is it in good condition? 		 Fuel system is in good condition. Go to Step 4.
4  Fuel injector circuit check 
  1. Check fuel injector circuit. See FUEL INJECTOR CIRCUIT CHECK .

Is it in good condition? 		 Go to Step 5 Repair or replace defective part.
5  Fuel injector check 
  1. Check fuel injector. See FUEL INJECTOR INSPECTION .

Is it in good condition? 		 Substitute a known-good ECM and recheck. See ECM (ENGINE CONTROL MODULE) REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION . Replace fuel injector.
