Throttle Body Assembly Cleaning And Inspection

The throttle bore and valve deposits may be cleaned on-vehicle using carburetor cleaner (Saturn P/N 21007432) and a shop towel. Follow instructions on container. Do not use a cleaner that contains methyl ethyl ketone, an extremely strong solvent that is not necessary for removing this type of deposit.

NOTE: Shiny spots on the pintle or seat are normal, and do not indicate misalignment or a bent pintle shaft.
NOTE: If air passage has heavy deposits, remove throttle body for complete cleaning.
  1. Remove and clean IAC valve O-ring sealing surface, pintle valve seat and air passage, if necessary.
    1. Use carburetor cleaner and a parts cleaning brush to remove carbon deposits.
    2. Follow instructions on container. Do not use a cleaner that contains methyl ethyl ketone, an extremely strong solvent that is not necessary for this type of deposit.
  2. Inspect IAC valve O-ring for cuts, cracks or distortion. Replace if damaged.
NOTE: If installing a new IAC valve, be sure to replace with an identical part. IAC valve pintle shape and diameter are designed for the specific application.
