Diagnostic Procedures
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, monitor TRANSMISSION RANGE while moving selector lever through each position. If scan tool display matches actual selector lever position, DTC may be caused by intermittent condition. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If scan tool display does not match actual selector lever position, go to next step.
- If scan tool display is not blank, go to step 5 . If scan tool display is blank, disconnect TR switch 7-pin connector. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and TR switch harness connector terminal "D" (Purple wire). See Figure . If battery voltage is present, check TR switch harness connector. If connector is okay, replace TR switch. If battery voltage is not present, go to next step.
- Inspect IGN 0 fuse (10-amp) in underhood fuse block. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, inspect all TR switch circuits for short to ground. Repair as needed.
- Measure voltage between ground and ignition switch feed circuit on IGN 0 (10-amp) fuse. If battery voltage is present, inspect underhood fuse block connector. Ensure connector is clean and tight. Repair as needed. If battery voltage is not present, inspect ignition switch feed circuit for open. Repair as needed.
- While monitoring scan tool, place selector lever in Park. If scan tool does not display PARK, go to next step. If scan tool displays PARK, go to step 11 .
- While monitoring scan tool, place selector lever in Reverse. If scan tool displays REVERSE, go to next step. If scan tool does not display REVERSE, go to step 16 .
- Place selector lever in Neutral. If scan tool does not display NEUTRAL, go to step 9 . If scan tool displays NEUTRAL, disconnect TR switch 4-pin connector. Using scan tool, monitor "P" position on TR switch outputs P, A, B and C. If scan tool displays OFF for output, replace TR switch. If scan tool does not display OFF for output, go to next step.
- Disconnect PRNDL module connector. Module is mounted to selector lever mechanism. If scan tool displays OFF, replace PRNDL module. If scan tool does not display OFF, repair Yellow wire between TCM harness connector terminal No. 15 and PRNDL module for short to voltage. See Figure .
- Observe indicator lights on selector lever console. If all PRNDL indicator lights are illuminated, go to next step. If all PRNDL indicator lights are not illuminated, inspect White wire between TCM harness connector terminal No. 35 and underhood fuse block for open. Repair as needed. If circuit is okay, replace faulty TCM. See Figure .
- Disconnect TR switch 4-pin connector. Connect jumper wire between battery voltage and TR switch harness connector terminal "A" (White wire). See Figure . Using scan tool, monitor "P" position on TR switch outputs P, A, B and C. If scan tool displays ON for output, replace TR switch. If scan tool does not display ON for output, repair open in White wire between TR switch and underhood fuse block.
- Place selector lever in Reverse. If scan displays REVERSE, go to next step. If scan does not display REVERSE, go to step 20 .
- Place selector lever in Neutral. If scan tool displays NEUTRAL, go to step 14 . If scan tool does not display NEUTRAL, disconnect TR switch 4-pin connector. Using scan tool, monitor "A" position on TR switch outputs P, A, B and C. If scan tool displays OFF for output, replace TR switch. If scan tool does not display OFF for output, go to next step.
- Disconnect PRNDL module connector. Module is mounted to selector lever mechanism. If scan tool displays OFF for all outputs, replace PRNDL module. If scan tool does not display OFF for all outputs, check Black/White wire between TCM harness connector terminal No. 14 and PRNDL module for short to voltage. See Figure . Repair as needed. If circuit is okay, replace TCM.
- Observe indicator lights on selector lever console. If all PRNDL indicator lights are illuminated, go to next step. If all PRNDL indicator lights are not illuminated, inspect CODE C circuit between TCM harness connector terminal No. 16 and underhood fuse block for open. See Figure . Repair as needed. If circuit is okay, see
- Disconnect TR switch 4-pin connector. Connect jumper wire between battery voltage and TR switch harness connector terminal "C" (Gray wire). See Figure . Using scan tool, monitor "C" position on TR switch outputs P, A, B and C. If scan tool displays ON for output, replace TR switch. If scan tool does not display ON for output, repair open in Gray wire between TR switch and underhood fuse block.
- Place selector lever in Neutral. If scan tool displays NEUTRAL, go to step 18 . If scan tool does not display NEUTRAL, disconnect TR switch 4-pin connector. Using scan tool, monitor "C" position on TR switch outputs P, A, B and C. If scan tool displays OFF for output, replace TR switch. If scan tool does not display OFF for output, go to next step.
- Disconnect PRNDL module connector. Module is mounted to selector lever mechanism. If scan tool displays OFF for all outputs, replace PRNDL module. If scan tool does not display OFF for all outputs, check Gray wire between TCM harness connector terminal No. 16 and PRNDL module for short to voltage. See Figure . If circuit is okay, replace TCM.
- Observe indicator lights on selector lever console. If all PRNDL indicator lights are illuminated, go to next step. If all PRNDL indicator lights are not illuminated, check Black/White wire between TCM harness connector terminal No. 14 and underhood fuse block for open. See Figure . Repair as needed. If circuit is okay, replace TCM.
- Disconnect TR switch 4-pin connector. Connect jumper wire between battery voltage and TR switch harness connector terminal "A" (Black/White wire). See Figure . Using scan tool, monitor "A" position on TR switch outputs P, A, B and C. If scan tool displays ON for output, replace TR switch. If scan tool does not display ON for output, repair open in Black/White wire between TR switch and underhood fuse block.
- Place selector lever in Neutral. If scan tool displays NEUTRAL, go to step 22 . If scan tool does not display NEUTRAL, observe indicator lights on selector lever console. If all PRNDL indicator lights are illuminated, go to next step. If all PRNDL indicator lights are not illuminated, check Yellow wire between TCM harness connector terminal No. 15 and underhood fuse block for open. See Figure . Repair as needed.
