Cylinder Block: Notes

Cylinder block is designed so coolant flows around bores. The aluminum crankcase is split horizontally. See Figure. Upper crankcase section is made of aluminum alloy with high silicone content which makes cast iron or steel liners unnecessary. Cylinder bores are finished so pistons and rings rub only against silicone particles. Crankcase has a separate bolt-on cast aluminum oil pan. Lower portion of oil pan is divided into 4 sections and covered with a screen.

CAUTION: DO NOT attempt piston replacement if facilities for Sunnen honing procedure are not available. If "silicone-lapping" step is omitted, piston seizure will result.
