Outlet Airflow Incorrect

- Unplug vacuum/electric solenoid connector. Solenoid is located behind instrument panel, on right side of plenum. Turn ignition on. Using test light, probe terminal No. 6 (Brown wire) at vacuum/electric solenoid connector.
- If test light does not glow, repair open Brown wire between solenoid and fuse block. If test glows, press OFF button on A/C-heater control panel. Connect test light lead to battery voltage. Probe terminals No. 1 through No. 5 at solenoid connector.
- If test light glows only at terminal No. 1, go to step 5). If test light does not glow at terminal No. 1, check for open or short to battery voltage in Light Green/Black wire. Repair as necessary. If wiring is okay, replace A/C-heater control unit.
- If test light glows at any terminals other than terminal No. 1, check for short to ground in wire causing test light to come on. Repair as necessary. If wiring is okay, replace A/C-heater control unit.
- Set A/C-heater control to BI-LEVEL mode. With test light lead still connected to battery voltage, probe terminals No. 1 through No. 5 at solenoid connector. If test light is on only at terminal No. 3, go to step 7). If test light is off at terminal No. 3, check Purple wire for open or short to battery voltage. If wiring is okay, replace A/C-heater control unit.
- If test light is on at any terminal other than No. 3, check for short to ground in wire causing test light to come on. Repair as necessary. If wiring is okay, replace A/C-heater control unit.
- Set A/C-heater control to UPPER mode. With test light lead still connected to battery voltage, probe terminals No. 1 through No. 5 at solenoid connector. If test light is on only at terminals No. 2, 3 and 5, go to step 9).
- If test light is off at terminals No. 2, 3 and 5, check connectors for proper installation. If connectors are okay, replace A/C-heater control unit.
- Set A/C-heater control to LOWER mode. With test light lead still connected to battery voltage, probe terminals No. 1 through No. 5 at solenoid connector. If test light is on only at terminal No. 2, go to step 11).
- If test light is off at terminal No. 2, check connectors for proper installation. If connectors are okay, replace A/C-heater control unit.
- Set A/C-heater control to DEFOG mode. With test light lead still connected to battery voltage, probe terminals No. 1 through No. 5 at solenoid connector. If test light is off at all terminals, go to next step. If test light is on at any terminal, check connectors for proper installation. If connectors are okay, replace A/C-heater control unit.
- Set A/C-heater control to defrost mode. With test light lead still connected to battery voltage, probe terminals No. 1 through No. 5 at solenoid connector. If test light is on only at terminal No. 3, A/C control system is functioning properly. Check vacuum system operation. See VACUUM DIAGRAM.
- If test light is off at terminal No. 3, check connectors for proper installation. If connectors are okay, replace A/C-heater control unit.
