A/C Pressure Sensor

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1998 Buick LeSabre. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

A solid state A/C pressure sensor is mounted on discharge line from compressor and is used to monitor A/C system pressure. Pressure transducer sends a variable voltage signal to Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Higher A/C system pressure results in higher voltage outputs, and lower A/C system pressure results in lower voltage output. PCM uses voltage inputs to control compressor clutch operation and cooling fan low and high speed operations. PCM will disengage compressor clutch when A/C system pressure is greater than 430 psi (30.2 kg/cm2 ) or less than 35 psi (2.5 kg/cm2 ).
