Trunk Compartment Lid Does Not Open When Trunk
COMPARTMENT LID RELEASE SWITCH IS PRESSED
- Put gear selector in Park. Put trunk valet switch in UNLOCK position. Disconnect trunk compartment lid release relay. Connect test light between relay connector terminal No. 86 (Orange wire) and ground, and between terminal No. 30 (Orange wire) and ground. If test light comes on for both terminals, go to next step. If test light does not come on for both terminals, check Orange wire for an open or short circuit.
- Connect test light between relay connector terminals No. 86 (Orange wire) and 85 (Light Blue wire). Put trunk valet switch in ON position. Press lid release switch. If test light does not come on, go to next step. If test light does come on, go to step 9).
- If diagnosis is being performed on Bonneville, go to step 5). If diagnosis is being performed on a vehicle other than Bonneville, connect jumper wire between relay terminals No. 86 (Orange wire) and 85 (Light Blue wire). Disconnect trunk valet switch (if equipped). Connect test light between switch terminal "A" (Light Blue wire) and ground. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, check Light Blue wire for an open circuit.
- Connect test light between trunk valet switch terminals "A" (Light Blue wire) and "B" (Black wire). Press trunk compartment lid release switch. If test light does not light, reconnect trunk valet switch. Turn trunk valet switch on, then go to next step. If test light comes on, check for good contact at trunk valet switch connector. If connector contact is okay, replace trunk valet switch.
- Disconnect trunk compartment lid release switch. Connect test light between switch terminal Black wire and ground. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, check Black wire for an open circuit.
- Connect test light between switch terminals Black and Orange/Black wires. If test light does not come on, go to next step. If test light comes on, check for good connector contact. If connector contact is okay, replace trunk compartment lid release switch.
- Connect fused jumper wire between switch terminals Black and Orange/Black wires. Disconnect park/neutral position switch connector. Connect test light between Orange/Black wire and ground. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, check Orange/Black wire for an open circuit. Also check connector for good terminal contact.
- Connect test light between park/neutral position switch terminals "A" (Orange/Black wire) and "B" (Black/White wire). If test light comes on, check for good contact at switch terminals. If contact is okay, replace park/neutral position switch. If test light does not come on, check Black/White wire for an open circuit. Check for good connector and ground contact. Repair as necessary.
- If test light came on in step 2), connect test light between luggage compartment lid release relay terminals No. 30 (Orange wire) and 87 (Black/White wire). If test light does not come on, go to next step. If test light comes on, check for good terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, replace trunk compartment lid release relay.
- Disconnect trunk compartment lid release solenoid. Connect test light between solenoid connector terminals "A" (Black/White wire) and "B" (Black wire). If test light comes on, check for good terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, replace trunk compartment lid release actuator. If test light does not light, check Black ground wire for an open circuit.
