Module Shutdown Test

  1. Using Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (J-39200) connected to terminal No. 4 (Black Wire) and terminal No. 11 (White wire) of DLC, measure A/C voltage, frequency, and duty cycle.
  2. Turn ignition on. With vehicle speed zero MPH, set DVOM to A/C Volts. Reading should be 4-7 volts. To measure frequency, press Hz button. Frequency reading should be .8-1.2 kHz. To measure duty cycle, press Hz button a second time. Duty cycle should be 30-50 percent.
  3. If readings are correct, test drive vehicle while observing duty cycle. If duty cycle drops to zero at 30-50 MPH, VES control module is okay. Go to CONTINUITY TEST  . If readings are not correct, check White wire circuit between DLC and VES module for an open condition. If circuit checks okay, go to next step.
