Externally Mounted Ignition Coil

  1. Remove coil connector. Using the low scale, connect ohmmeter between coil "BAT" and "TACH" terminals. See Fig 1. If resistance exceeds 1 ohm, replace ignition coil.

  2. Set ohmmeter to high scale. Connect leads between coil "BAT" terminal and a good ground on coil. See Fig 1. If resistance is less than infinity, replace ignition coil.
  3. With ohmmeter still set in high range, connect leads between "TACH" and coil secondary terminal. If resistance is not between 6000-30,000 ohms, replace ignition coil.
