Axle Housing: Disassembly
- Mount axle housing in soft-jawed vise. Remove companion flange. Using soft-faced hammer, tap axle shaft from axle housing. Remove spacer and dust covers from axle housing. Drive inner bearing and oil seal from axle housing (if necessary).CAUTION: DO NOT remove inner and outer bearings unless replacement is required.
- If outer bearing requires replacement, cut bearing retainer in 3 places with chisel. Insert claws of Bearing Remover (MB990918) in 3 places and rotate 90 degrees. Tighten claws in body of bearing remover. Pull bearing from shaft. See Fig 1 .
