Using ODL

Ensure ignition is off. Place shift selector lever in "P". Turn ignition on. ODL should illuminate for 2 seconds. If ODL does not illuminate, go to PINPOINT TEST TB . Turn ignition off (not in LOCK position). Move shift selector lever to "D". Hold OD On/Off switch button in and turn ignition on. Wait for more than 2 seconds. Continue to hold OD On/Off switch button in and move shift selector to "2". Release OD button. Set OD On/Off switch to ON position. Move shift selector lever to "1". Set OD On/Off switch to OFF position. Depress accelerator to WOT and release. Monitor ODL and record flashing DTCs. See READING CODES .

If any DTCs are present, go to next step. If NGS tester displays NO FAILURES or if using ODL, initial flash signal is followed by 10 similar flashes signals, go to PINPOINT TEST Z. If MEMORY BACKUP FAIL with NGS tester or ODL continuously flashes, battery has been disconnected, repeat step 5). If unable to initiate DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE RESULTS with NGS tester or ODL stays illuminated, see PINPOINT TESTS QA.

NOTE: Erasing DTCs and retesting will indicate whether hard or intermittent DTCs are present.

6) Erase & Retest System Using NGS tester, press CLEAR in DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE RESULTS. Using ODL, DTCs are cleared when ignition is turned off after performing Diagnostic Test Mode Step 5). Repeat step 5). If all or some DTCs cannot be retrieved, it may be necessary to lightly tap suspect sensors, shake or wiggle harnesses, or drive vehicle in order to induce failure. Repeat step 5). If any DTCs are recorded, go to appropriate PINPOINT TEST. See CODE REFERENCE CHART. If no DTCs are recorded, go to next step.
7) Perform Intermittent Diagnostics Go to PINPOINT TEST Z . If any DTCs are recorded, see appropriate PINPOINT TEST and retest. If no DTCs are recorded, see SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS in AUTO TRANS OVERHAUL - FORD 4F20E TRANSAXLE overhaul article.
