Fuel Delivery
On LTD and Marquis models, low pressure electric fuel pump in tank delivers pressurized fuel to inlet port on high pressure pump. High pressure pump is used to deliver fuel to injectors in fuel charging assembly.
On all other models, fuel is delivered from fuel tank by high pressure electric fuel pump, which is mounted in fuel tank. Fuel is filtered and sent to fuel charging assembly.
Both injector nozzles are mounted vertically above throttle plates, in parallel with fuel pressure regulator. Fuel pressure regulator keeps fuel delivery pressure at constant 39 psi (2.7 kg/cm2 ). Excess fuel, supplied by pump but not needed by engine, returns to tank through fuel return line.
