Electronic Idle Speed Control (ELR)
The engine speed sensor sends an alternating voltage to EDS control unit. The EDS control unit processes the idle speed signal and compares actual reading with a preset specification.
Idle speed is held constant by electromagnetic actuator independently of engine load. When engine coolant temperature is less than 140°F (60°C), EDS control unit increases idle speed to a preset specification. See Fig 1.
