DTC P1260 DETECTION CONDITION AND POSSIBLE CAUSES

DTC P1260 ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM
DETECTION CONDITION
  • P1260 indicates the anti-theft system has determined a theft condition existed and the engine is disabled.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
  • Previous theft condition.
  • Anti-theft system failure.
DTC P1260 DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK ALL OTHER PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT (PATS) DTCs
Yes Go to next step.
No See ANTI-THEFT - PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) .
2 CHECK FOR OTHER POWERTRAIN DTCs
  • Repair all other powertrain DTCs before P1260.
  • Have all other powertrain DTCs been diagnosed? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Go to appropriate DTC Troubleshooting.
3 ATTEMPT TO START ENGINE
  • Complete Keep Alive Random Access Memory (KAM). Reset to clear DTC 1260. This reset initializes the PCM to communicate with the PATS.
  • Attempt to start the engine.
  • Does the engine start? 
Yes No system faults exists at this time.
For intermittent No Starts or Start Stalls, check for intermittent PATS faults.
NOTE:
  • PATS cannot stall the engine after 1 second of operation.

For intermittent Stalls while driving, verify WDS or equivalent tester to PCM communication during concern. If PCM communication error occurs, possible causes are:
  • Loss of PWRS or GNDS to PCM.
  • Faulty PCM PWR relay.
  • Faulty EEC PWR diode.

Repair as necessary and return vehicle to customer.
No DTC P1260 is not the cause of the No Start. SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING CHART - STARTING SYSTEM to diagnose the No Start symptom.
