Clutch Assembly: Installation
- If replacing pilot bearing on MX-6 and 626, drive in new pilot bearing until distance between pilot bearing and end of crankshaft is .15-.17" (3.8-4.3 mm). On MX-3, Protege and 323, install new pilot bearing flush with end of crankshaft.
- On all models, ensure all bolts are clean and old sealant has been removed from threads. Coat bolt threads with Stud and Bearing Mount Sealer (EOAZ-19554-B ), and install bolts. Tighten bolts to specification in a crisscross pattern.
- Position clutch disc on flywheel with damper springs facing outward. Hold disc in place with clutch aligner. Position pressure plate over clutch disc and align marks made at removal (if reusing pressure plate).
- Install pressure plate retaining bolts and tighten to specification in a crisscross pattern. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS at end of article. Remove clutch aligner. Lightly coat input shaft splines with White lithium grease.
- Install transaxle assembly by aligning input shaft through clutch disc splines. Align clutch housing onto engine guide pins. Install clutch housing bolts and tighten to specification. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
