Heater Core: Notes
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford Expedition. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
Heater core inlet hose will become too hot to handle if system is working correctly.
NOTE:
Spring-type clamps are installed as original equipment. Installation and overtightening of non-specification clamps can cause leakage at heater water hose connection and damage heater core.
Testing of returned heater cores reveal that a large percentage of heater cores are good and did not require installation of a new heater core. If a heater core leak is suspected, heater core must be tested by following plugged heater core test before heater core pressure test. Carry out a system inspection by checking heater system thoroughly as follows:
- Inspect for evidence of leakage at heater water hose to heater core attachments. A coolant leak in heater water hose could follow heater core tube to heater core and appear as a leak in heater core.
- Check integrity of heater water hose clamps.
