Test H: Rain Moisture Sensitive Function Does Not Operate Properly
NOTE:
After repair, repeat Front Electronic Module (FEM) self-test and clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC).
- Check for FEM DTCs. If no DTCs were retrieved, go to next step. If any DTCs were retrieved, go to SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM .
- Check components, including rain sensor mounting, connector condition, silicone sensor pad condition, mounting brackets and windshield condition over sensor pads. Ensure wiper switch is in AUTO position. If no problems are found, go to next step. If any problems are found, repair as necessary and recheck.
- If wipers do not operate continuously when switch is in AUTO position, go to next step. If wipers operate continuously when switch is in AUTO position, go to step 10 .
- If wipers are inoperative, go to next step. If wipers work erratically, remove rain sensor module, clean inside of windshield and reinstall module. Recheck system.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, monitor FEM PID WPMODE while turning wiper switch to AUTO position. If PID value does not match switch position, go to next step. If PID value matches switch position, go to step 7 .
- Using NGS tester, monitor FEM PID WPMODE while turning wiper switch to intermittent positions 2 through 7. If PID value does not match switch positions, replace multifunction switch. See MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If PID value matches switch position, see SYMPTOM TEST INDEX to continue diagnosis.
- Disconnect 6-pin rain sensor module connector C914. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Check voltage between rain sensor module harness connector C914 terminal No. 6 (Pink/Black wire) and ground. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, go to step 9 .
- Remove fuse No. 216 (5-amp) from Central Junction Box (CJB). Check for voltage between fuse No. 216 input cavity in CJB and ground. If battery voltage exists, repair Pink/Black wire between rain sensor and CJB. If battery voltage does not exist, repair power distribution to fuse 216 in CJB. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article.
- Disconnect 12-pin multifunction switch connector C202. Check resistance of circuits between multifunction switch harness connector C202 and rain sensor module harness connector C914. See MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH/RAIN SENSOR MODULE CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION
table. See Figure
. If resistance is less than 5 ohms on all circuits, replace rain sensor module. See RAIN SENSOR MODULE
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 5 ohms or more on any circuit, repair affected circuit.MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH/RAIN SENSOR MODULE CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION
Multifunction Switch Connector C202 Terminal No. (Wire Color) Rain Sensor Module Connector C914 Terminal No. (Wire Color) 1 (Orange/Green) 1 (White/Green) 2 (Brown/White) 4 (Yellow/Green) 3 (Blue/White) 3 (Gray/Orange) - Check wiper speed with wiper switch in AUTO position. If wipers are operating at intermittent speed No. 1 (longest delay time), replace rain sensor module. See RAIN SENSOR MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If wipers are operating at a faster rate, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Disconnect 6-pin rain sensor module connector C914. Turn wiper switch to AUTO position. If wipers turn off, replace rain sensor module. See RAIN SENSOR MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If wipers continue to operate, go to TEST C: WIPERS STAY ON CONTINUOUSLY .
