Test E: Wash & Wipe Function Does Not Operate Properly
NOTE:
After repair, repeat Front Electronic Module (FEM) self-test and clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC).
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect NGS tester. Observe FEM PID WPMODE while turning wiper switch through all positions. If FEM PID WPMODE values do not agree with switch positions and vehicle is equipped with moisture sensitive wipers, go to next step. If FEM PID WPMODE values do not agree with switch positions and vehicle is not equipped with moisture sensitive wipers, go to step 3 . If FEM PID WPMODE values agree with switch positions, go to step 6 .
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect 6-pin rain sensor module harness connector C914. Observe FEM PID WPMODE while turning wiper switch through all positions. If FEM PID WPMODE values do not agree with switch positions, go to next step. If FEM PID WPMODE values agree with switch positions, replace rain sensor module. See RAIN SENSOR MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Disconnect 12-pin multifunction switch harness connector C202. Test wiper/washer portion of multifunction switch. See MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS. If multifunction switch is okay, go to next step. If multifunction switch is faulty, replace multifunction switch. See MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Check resistance between multifunction switch harness connector C202 terminal No. 3 (Blue/White wire) and ground. See Figure . If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in circuit between multifunction switch, rain sensor module and FEM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Check resistance between multifunction switch harness connector C202 terminal No. 3 (Blue/White wire) and FEM harness connector C201f terminal No. 13 (Gray/Violet wire). See Figure . Check resistance between multifunction switch harness connector C202 terminal No. 2 (Brown/White wire) and FEM harness connector C201f terminal No. 14 (Yellow wire). If both resistance readings are 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If either resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Disconnect 22-pin FEM harness connector C201b. Check resistance between FEM harness connector C201b terminal No. 13 (Black/Blue wire) and wiper motor harness connector C125 terminal No. 5 (Black/Yellow wire). See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace FEM. See FRONT ELECTRONIC MODULE (FEM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in circuit between wiper motor and FEM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
