Pinpoint Test A - Service Bay Diagnostics
- Entering Auto Test
See SUSPENSION - ELECTRONIC AIR
article in the SUSPENSION section. After entering auto test, go to next step.
- Determining Required Test (Code 35)
Read and record displayed Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Each code must be serviced individually. If DTC 35 is displayed, go to step 4). If DTC 35 is not displayed, go to next step.
- Determining Required Test (Code 45)
Read and record displayed Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Each code must be serviced individually. If DTC 45 is displayed, go to step 9). If DTC 45 is not displayed, go to PINPOINT TEST B
.
- Eliminate EVO Actuator
Unplug EVO actuator harness connector. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between EVO actuator terminals. If resistance is 8-16 ohms, go to next step. If resistance not 8-16 ohms, replace EVO actuator and retest system.
- Eliminate Harness Short To Battery
Unplug EVO actuator connector. Unplug EVO control module Gray connector. Connect negative voltmeter lead to good ground. Measure voltage in circuit No. 353 (Light Blue wire) at connector. Measure voltage in circuit No. 330 (Yellow/Light Green wire) at connector. If voltage is indicated in either circuit, repair short to battery in suspect wire. If no voltage is indicated, go to next step.
- Eliminate Harness Short To Ground
With EVO actuator and control module disconnected, connect ohmmeter lead to good ground. Connect remaining lead to circuit No. 353 (Light Blue wire) at connector. Check for continuity. In same manner, check for continuity in circuit No. 330 (Yellow/Light Green wire). If continuity exists in either circuit, repair short to ground in suspect wire. If no continuity exists, go to next step.
- Eliminate Short Between Circuits No. 353 & 330
With EVO actuator and control module disconnected, check for continuity between circuits No. 353 (Light Blue wire) and No. 330 (Yellow/Light Green wire) at connector. If continuity exists, repair short between circuits. Repeat auto test. If no continuity exists, go to next step.
- Eliminate Opens In Circuits No. 353 & 330
With EVO actuator and control module disconnected, check for continuity in circuit No. 353 (Light Blue wire) between EVO control module Gray connector and EVO actuator connector. Check for continuity in circuit No. 330 (Yellow/Light Green wire) in same manner. If continuity exists in both circuits, replace EVO control module and repeat auto test. If no continuity exists in either circuit, repair open in suspect circuit(s). Repeat auto test.
- Steering Sensor Power & Ground Check
Unplug steering sensor connector. Check for voltage between circuits No. 294 (White/Light Blue wire) and No. 430 (Gray wire) at steering sensor connector. If battery voltage is indicated, go to step 11). If battery voltage is not indicated, go to next step.
- Ground Check
Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between circuit No. 430 (Gray wire) and ground. If continuity exists, repair open in circuit No. 294 (White/Light Blue wire). If no continuity exists, repair open in circuit No. 430 (Gray wire).
- Control Module Voltage Check
Connect steering sensor connector. Unplug EVO control module Black connector. Backprobe steering sensor connector circuit No. 633 (Red wire) with positive voltmeter lead. Connect negative lead to ground. Slowly rotate steering wheel 1/4 turn. Observe voltmeter. Connect voltmeter to circuit No. 634 (Brown wire) in same manner. Rotate steering wheel 1/4 turn. Observe voltmeter. If voltmeter fluctuates 0-5 volts while rotating steering wheel, replace EVO control module. If voltage does not fluctuate, go to next step.
- Control Module Voltage Check
Repeat vehicle set-up as in step 11). Repeat test procedure. If constant battery voltage is indicated in one or both circuits, repair short to battery voltage in suspect circuit(s). If constant battery voltage is not indicated, go to next step.
- Control Module Voltage Check
Repeat vehicle set-up as in step 11). Repeat test procedure. If a constant 5 volts is indicated in one or both circuits, replace steering sensor. If constant 5 volts is not indicated, go to next step.
- Steering Sensor Check
Connect EVO control module Black connector. Unplug steering sensor connector. Alternately, connect voltmeter to circuits No. 633 (Red wire) and No. 634 (Brown wire) and ground. If 5 volts is indicated, replace steering sensor and repeat auto test. If no voltage is indicated, go to next step.
- Wiring Or Module Short Check
Disconnect EVO control module Black connector. Alternately, connect ohmmeter to circuits No. 633 (Red wire) and No. 634 (Brown wire) and ground. If no continuity exists, repair short to ground and repeat auto test. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Open Circuit Check
Check circuit No. 633 (Red wire) for continuity between steering sensor connector and EVO control module Black connector. Check circuit No. 634 (Brown wire) for continuity between steering sensor connector and EVO control module Black connector. If no continuity exists, repair open circuit(s) and repeat auto test. If continuity exists, replace EVO control module and repeat auto test.
