On-Vehicle Inspection [09/2015 - ]: Procedure
- CHECK FUEL PUMP OPERATION AND FOR FUEL LEAKS
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the power switch on (IG).NOTE:
Do not start the engine.
- Turn the Techstream on.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the Fuel Pump / Speed.
- Check the fuel pump operation.
- Check for pressure in the fuel inlet tube from the fuel line. Check that the sound of fuel flowing in the fuel tank can be heard.
If no sound can be heard, check the integration relay, fuel pump, ECM and wiring connector.
- Check for pressure in the fuel inlet tube from the fuel line. Check that the sound of fuel flowing in the fuel tank can be heard.
- Check for fuel leaks.
- Check that there are no fuel leaks anywhere on the system after performing maintenance.
If there is a fuel leak, repair or replace parts as necessary.
- Check that there are no fuel leaks anywhere on the system after performing maintenance.
- CHECK FUEL PRESSURE
- Check that the auxiliary battery positive voltage is above 12 V.
- Discharge the fuel system pressure (Refer to PRECAUTION [09/2015 - ] ).
- Disconnect the cable from the auxiliary battery negative (-) terminal.NOTE:
- After turning the power switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the auxiliary battery negative (-) terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the auxiliary battery negative (-) terminal notices before proceeding with work (Refer to PRECAUTION [09/2015 - ] ).
- When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Refer to INITIALIZATION [09/2015 - ] ).
- When checking the fuel pressure of the direct injection side:
Disconnect the fuel pump main tube.
- Remove the fuel pipe clamp.
- Pinch the connector and pull the fuel tube (Refer to PRECAUTION [09/2015 - ] ).WARNING:
- Always read the precautions (Refer to PRECAUTION [09/2015 - ] ) before disconnecting the fuel tube connector (quick type A).
- The fuel tube may spray fuel as a result of pressure that remains in the tube. Do not allow fuel to be sprayed in the engine compartment.
- Remove the fuel pipe clamp.
- When checking the fuel pressure of the port injection side:
Disconnect the fuel pump main tube.
- Remove the fuel pipe clamp.
- Pinch the connector and pull the fuel tube.WARNING:
- Always read the precautions (Refer to PRECAUTION [09/2015 - ] ) before disconnecting the fuel tube connector (quick type A).
- The fuel tube may spray fuel as a result of pressure that remains in the tube. Do not allow fuel to be sprayed in the engine compartment.
- Remove the fuel pipe clamp.
- Install SST (pressure gauge) as shown in the illustration.
- SST: 09268-45101
- 09268-41250
- 09268-41260
- 09268-41280
- 09268-41500
- 09268-41700
- 95336-08070
- SST: 09268-45101
- Wipe off any gasoline.
- Reconnect the cable to the auxiliary battery negative (-) terminal.NOTE:
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Refer to INITIALIZATION [09/2015 - ] ).
- Operate the fuel pump.
- Measure the fuel pressure.
Standard fuel pressure
196 to 588 kPa (2.0 to 6.0 kgf/cm2 , 28 to 85 psi)
If the fuel pressure is higher than the specification, replace the fuel pump (built into fuel tank).
If the pressure is lower than the specification, check the fuel hoses, connections and fuel pump (built into fuel tank).
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Put the engine in inspection mode (Refer to INSPECTION MODE PROCEDURE [09/2015 - ] ).
- Measure the fuel pressure at idle.
Standard fuel pressure
196 to 588 kPa (2.0 to 6.0 kgf/cm2 , 28 to 85 psi)
If the pressure is not as specified, check the fuel pump and injectors.
- Stop the engine.
- Check that the fuel pressure remains as specified for 5 minutes after the engine has stopped.
Standard fuel pressure
147 kPa (1.5 kgf/cm2 , 21 psi) or more
If the pressure is not as specified, check the fuel pump or injectors.
- After checking the fuel pressure, disconnect the cable from the auxiliary battery negative (-) terminal, remove the service plug grip, and carefully remove SST and the fuel tube connector to prevent fuel from spilling.
- Reconnect the fuel pump main tube (Refer to PRECAUTION [09/2015 - ] ).
- Check for fuel leaks.
- CHECK FUEL PRESSURE (for High Pressure)
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the power switch on (IG).
- Turn the Techstream on.
- Put the engine in inspection mode (Refer to INSPECTION MODE PROCEDURE [09/2015 - ] ).
- Warm up the engine.
- Run the engine at idle.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / All Data / Fuel Press.
- Check the high pressure side fuel pressure.
Standard fuel pressure
3500 to 4500 kPa (35.7 to 45.9 kgf/cm2 , 508 to 653 psi)
If the pressure is not as specified, check the fuel pump, high pressure side fuel pump, fuel delivery pipe assembly LH (fuel pressure sensor) and wirings.
- Stop the engine.
