Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: If the transponder key ECU is replaced, register the key and ECU communication ID.
  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the tester ON.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Immobilizer / Active Test.
    5. Perform the Active Test according to the display on the tester.

      Immobilizer: 

      ACTIVE TEST - IMMOBILIZER

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Security Indic Turn security indicator ON/OFF -

      OK: 

      The security indicator turns on and off according to the tester operation. 

    NG: Go to step 2 

    OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSPONDER KEY ECU - SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT) 
    1. Disconnect the E73 transponder key ECU connectors.

    3. Disconnect the E32 air conditioning control connectors.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E73-8 (IND) - E32-15 (LP) Always Below 1 Ω.
      E73-8 (IND) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    5. Reconnect the transponder key ECU connectors.
    6. Reconnect the air conditioning control connectors.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect E32 air conditioning control connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E32-20 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
    4. Reconnect the air conditioning control connector.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  4. INSPECT TRANSPONDER KEY ECU

    1. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage 

      STANDARD VOLTAGE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E73-8 (IND) - Body ground Immobilizer set state (No key is in ignition key cylinder) Repeats 11 to 14 V and below 1 V

    NG: REPLACE AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: REPLACE TRANSPONDER KEY ECU  (See REMOVAL  )
