Front Airbag Sensor: Replacement

HINT:

  1. PRECAUTION 
    CAUTION: Be sure to read "PRECAUTION" thoroughly before servicing (See PRECAUTION  ).
  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait for 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent the airbag working.
  3. REMOVE FRONT AIRBAG SENSOR 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and front airbag sensor.
    2. Disconnect the connector from the front airbag sensor.

  4. INSPECT FRONT AIRBAG SENSOR 
    1. When the front bumper of the vehicle or its area is damaged, check if there is any damage to the front airbag sensor. If any of the front airbag sensors have defects as mentioned below, replace it with a new one:
      • Cracks, dents or chips on the sensor housing.
      • Cracks or other damage to the connector.
      • Peeling off of the label or damage to the serial number.
  5. INSTALL FRONT AIRBAG SENSOR 
    1. Check that the ignition switch is OFF.
    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the battery negative terminal.
      NOTE: Do not start the operation for 90 seconds after removing the terminal.
    3. Install the front airbag sensor with the 2 bolts.

      Torque: 

      7.5 N.m (76 kgf.cm, 66 in..lbf): Length A 65 mm (2.559 in.) 

      9.0 N.m (92 kgf.cm, 80 in..lbf): Length B 43 mm (1.693 in.) 

      NOTE:
      • If the front airbag sensor has been dropped, or there are any cracks, dents or other defects in the case or connector, replace it with a new one.
      • When installing the front airbag sensor, be careful that the SRS wiring does not interfere with other parts and that it is not pinched between other parts.
    4. Connect the connector to the front airbag sensor.
    5. Check that there is no looseness in the installation parts of the front airbag sensor.
  6. PERFORM INITIALIZATION 

    HINT:

    Some systems need initialization when disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal.

  7. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT (SEE  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM  )
