Section 450 (Engine Fuel System (2UZ-FE)): Inspection

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Toyota 4Runner. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. FUEL INJECTOR ASSY
    1. Inspect injector resistance
      1. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals.

      Resistance: 13.4 - 14.2 Ω at 20°C (68°F)

If the resistance is not as specified, replace the injector.

    2. CAUTION: Keep injector clear of sparks during the test.

    3. Inspect injector inspection
      1. Purchase the new No.1 fuel pipe and take out the fuel tube connector from its pipe.
        NOTE:

      3. Connect SST and fuel tube connector to the fuel pipe.

        SST 09268 - 41047 (95336-08070)

      4. Remove the pressure regulator from the delivery pipe.
      5. Install the O-ring to the fuel inlet of the pressure regulator.
      6. Connect SST (hose) to the fuel inlet of the pressure regulator with SST (union) and the 2 bolts.

        SST 09268 - 41047 (95336-08070, 09268 - 41091)

        Torque: 7.5 N.m (80 kgf.cm, 66 in..lbf)

      7. Connect the fuel return hose to the fuel outlet of the pressure regulator.
      8. Install the O-ring to the injector.
      9. Connect SST (union and hose) to the injector, and hold the injector and union with SST (clamp)

        SST 09268 - 41047 (09268 - 41110, 09268 - 41300, 95336-08070)

      10. CAUTION: Install a suitable vinyl tube onto the injector to prevent gasoline from splashing out.
      11. Put the injector into a graduated cylinder.
      12. Operate the fuel pump. (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION )
      13. Connect SST (wire) to the injector and battery for 15 seconds, and measure the injection volume with a graduated cylinder. Test each injector 2 or 3 time.

        SST 09842 - 30070

        Volume: 56 - 69 cm 3  (3.4 - 4.2 cu in.) per 15 seconds

        Difference between each injector:

13 cm 3  (0.8 cu in.) or less

If the injection volume is not as specified, replace the injector.

    4. Inspect leakage
      1. In the condition above, disconnect the tester probes of SST (wire) from the battery and check the fuel leakage from the injector.

        SST 09842 - 30070

Fuel drop: 1 drop or less per 12 minutes

  2. FUEL PUMP RESISTOR
    1. Inspect the fuel pump resistor resistance.
      1. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between terminal.

        Resistance: 0.70 - 0.76 Ω at 20°C (68°F)

  3. FUEL SUCTION W/PUMP & GAGE TUBE ASSY
    1. Inspect fuel pump resistance.
      1. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between terminals 4 and 5.
Fig 9: Identifying Fuel Pump Connector Terminals

        Resistance: 0.2 - 3.0 Ω at 20°C (68°F)

    2. NOTE:
      • These tests must be done quickly (within 10 seconds) to prevent the coil from burning out.
      • Keep fuel pump as far away from the battery as possible.
      • Always do the switching at the battery side.
    3. Inspect fuel pump operation
      1. Apply battery voltage to both terminals. Check that the pump operates.
  4. FUEL PUMP RELAY ASSY
    1. Continuity inspection.
      1. Using an ohmmeter, check that there is continuity between each terminal.

FUEL PUMP RELAY TERMINALS SPECIFIED CONDITION

        Between Terminals Specified Condition
        1 - 2 3 - 4 Continuity
        3 - 5 No continuity
      2. Using an ohmmeter, check that there is continuity between terminals 3 and 5 when the battery voltage is applied across terminals 1 and 2.
