Kickdown Switch Circuit
- Turn ignition on. DO NOT start engine. Press OD switch to the ON position. If OD switch is in OFF position, OD OFF light will be on continuously and will not blink.
- Install jumper wire between terminals TE1 and E1 of Total Diagnostic Communication Link (TDCL) or check connector. The TDCL is located behind driver's side of instrument panel. Check connector is located on top left front corner of engine. See Figure.
- OD OFF light should blink Code 68. If OD OFF light does not blink Code 68, go to step 5. If OD OFF light blinks Code 68, depress and hold gas pedal far enough to activate kickdown switch. OD OFF light should blink on and off continuously.
- If OD OFF light does not blink on and off continuously, go to next step. If OD OFF light blinks on and off continuously, clear fault code. See CLEARING FAULT CODES . Continue diagnosing the vehicle using TROUBLE SHOOTING procedures.
- Disconnect kickdown switch connector. See Figure. Connect a DVOM between kickdown switch terminals. Continuity should be present when kickdown switch is depressed. No continuity should be present when kickdown switch is released. If continuity readings are as specified, go to next step. If continuity readings are not as specified, replace the kickdown switch. Clear fault codes. See CLEARING FAULT CODES . Road test vehicle.
- Check for defective wiring between ECT ECU connector and kickdown switch connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair wiring as necessary. Clear fault code. See CLEARING FAULT CODES . Road test vehicle. If ECT ECU connector and wiring is okay, replace ECT ECU.
