- Access ECT ECU located on right side of dash, under glove box. Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, backprobe between ECT ECU connector terminal specified in NEUTRAL START SWITCH VOLTAGE table and ground with connector connected. Ensure shift lever is in specified position. See Figure.
- If voltage is not as specified in NEUTRAL START SWITCH CONTINUITY table, then go to next step. If voltage is as specified in NEUTRAL START SWITCH VOLTAGE table. If transmission functions improperly, perform symptom diagnostics. See TROUBLE SHOOTING .

- Turn ignition off. Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect neutral start switch connector. Using a DVOM, check for continuity between neutral start switch terminals with shift lever in specified position in NEUTRAL START SWITCH CONTINUITY table. See Fig 1. If continuity is as specified, go to next step. If continuity is not as specified, replace neutral start switch.

- Check for defective wiring between ECT ECU connector and neutral start switch connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, replace ECT ECU.
