Governor Check

  1. With vehicle on hoist (rear wheels off ground), disconnect vacuum line to modulator. Connect pressure gauge to transmission and tachometer to engine.
  2. Start engine. Move selector lever to drive range and release brake. Check line pressure at 1000 RPM. Line pressure should be 150 psi (10.5 kg/cm2 ). Slowly increase engine speed to 3000 RPM. Check line pressure. See Figure .
  3. Line pressure should drop 10 psi (.7 kg/cm2 ). If no pressure drop occurs, inspect governor for sticking valve or weight, restricted orifice in valve, scored or cracked bore or restricted feed pipe or screen.
