Flash Code Diagnostics
Flash code diagnostics can be used to read active codes and to determine if history codes are present. Flash code diagnostics cannot be used to clear codes or read history codes. Flash code diagnostics are enabled by jumping Data Link Connector (DLC) terminal No. 4 to terminal No. 13 with ignition on. See Figure. Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) displays trouble codes by flashing AIR BAG warning light. Each code displayed consists of a number of flashes which represent tens digit, followed by a 1.2 second pause, followed by a number of flashes which represent ones digit of DTC. After all codes have been displayed, entire code sequence will continually repeat until jumper is removed from DLC.
Flash code 12 will always be first code displayed. It is not an indication of a problem but an indication that flash code mode has been enabled. If there are no active or history codes present, code 12 will be displayed until jumper is removed. Flash code 13 will be displayed if history codes are present. Scan tool is required to read history codes.
