Removal And Installation (AWD Models): Removal
CAUTION:
When removing the transmission assembly from engine, first remove the crankshaft position sensor (POS) from the transmission assembly.
Be careful not to damage sensor edge.

- Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Remove engine cover.
- Remove A/T fluid level gauge.
- Remove engine under cover with power tool.
- Remove front cross bar. Refer to REMOVAL & INSTALLATION .
- Remove exhaust front tube and center muffler with power tool.
- Remove three way catalyst. Refer to EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND THREE WAY CATALYST .
- Remove front propeller shaft. Refer to FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT .
- Remove rear propeller shaft. Refer to REAR PROPELLER SHAFT .
- Remove control rod. Refer to SHIFT CONTROL DEVICE .
- Remove crankshaft position sensor (POS) from transmission assembly.CAUTION:
- Do not subject it to impact by dropping or hitting it.
- Do not disassemble.
- Do not allow metal filings, etc., to get on the sensor's front edge magnetic area.
- Do not place in an area affected by magnetism.
- Remove starter motor. Refer to REMOVAL & INSTALLATION .
- Disconnect fluid cooler tube from transmission assembly.
- Remove dust cover from converter housing part.
- Turn crankshaft, and remove the four tightening bolts for drive plate and torque converter.CAUTION: When turning crankshaft, turn it clockwise as viewed from the front of the engine.
- Remove dynamic damper (for VQ35DE models). Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION - 2WD MODEL .
- Support transmission assembly with a transmission jack.CAUTION: When setting the transmission jack, be careful not to allow it to collide against the drain plug.
- Remove engine rear member with power tool.
- Tilt the transmission slightly to keep the clearance between body and transmission, and then disconnect air breather hose from charging pipe. Refer to AIR BREATHER HOSE .
- Disconnect A/T assembly connector and transfer assembly connector.
- Remove A/T fluid charging pipe.
- Plug up openings such as the fluid charging pipe hole, etc.
- Remove bolts fixing transmission assembly to engine with power tool.
- Remove transmission assembly with transfer from vehicle.
- Secure torque converter to prevent it from dropping.
- Secure transmission assembly to a jack.
- Remove transfer from transmission assembly. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
