Fail-Safe System Check

  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Turn ASCD switch on. If CRUISE indicator light flashes, go to TEST 3: ASCD STEERING SWITCH CHECK  . If CRUISE indicator light does not flash, go to next step.
  2. Turn ASCD switch off. Drive vehicle at a speed greater than 25 MPH and turn ASCD switch on. Push SET/COAST switch and observe CRUISE indicator light. If CRUISE indicator light flashes, go to next step. If CRUISE indicator light does not flash, go to step  4 .
  3. Perform TEST 5: ASCD PUMP CIRCUIT CHECK  . If fault is still present, perform TEST 4: VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS) CHECK  . If no problem was found during both diagnostic procedures, replace ASCD control unit.
  4. Slowly depress brake pedal for at least 5 seconds. Observe CRUISE indicator light. If CRUISE indicator light flashes, perform TEST 2: ASCD BRAKE/BRAKELIGHT SWITCH CHECK  . If CRUISE indicator light does not flash, system is okay at this time.
