Repair Procedures: Removal
- Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery and then wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Turn the steering wheel so that the front wheels can face straight ahead.
- Remove the airbag module.
(Refer to Restraint - "DRIVER AIRBAG (DAB) MODULE AND CLOCK SPRING ")
- Disconnect the connector & lock nut (A) and then remove the steering wheel by using special service tools (09561-11001).
Tightening torque:
44.1 - 49.0 N.m (4.5 - 5.0 kgf.m, 32.5 - 36.2
CAUTION:- Do not hammer on the steering wheel to remove it; it may damage the steering column.
- Remove the steering column shroud.
(Refer to Restraint - "STEERING COLUMN SHROUD PANEL ")
- Remove the clock spring.
(Refer to Restraint - "DRIVER AIRBAG (DAB) MODULE AND CLOCK SPRING ")
- Remove the multifunction switch.
(Refer to MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH Body Electrical System)
- Remove the crash pad lower panel.
(Refer to Body (Interior and Exterior) - "CRASH PAD LOWER PANEL ")
- Loosen the bolt (A) and then disconnect the universal joint assembly from the pinion of the steering gear box.
Tightening torque:
32.4 - 37.3 N.m (3.3 - 3.8 kgf.m, 23.9 - 27.5 lb-ft)
CAUTION:- Universal joint for gear box pinion shaft certainly is signed by the insertion.
- Disconnect all connectors (A) connected to the steering column.
- Remove the steering column (C) by loosening the mounting bolt (B-1 ea) and nut (A-2 ea).
Tightening torque:
(A) 2.7 - 17.7 N.m (1.3 - 1.8 kgf.m, 9.4 - 13.0 lb-ft)
(B) 44.1- 49.0 N.m (4.5 - 5.0 kgf.m, 32.5 -36.2 lb-ft)
- Install in the reverse order of removal.
