Axle Tube Bushing: Installation

  1. NOTE: Make sure that the component is installed to the position noted before removal.

    Install the bushing onto the tube assembly. Using the general equipment: press the bushing into place. Use Special Service Tool: 204-172 (T92T-3010-A) Remover/Installer, Ball Joint., 205-1051 Remover/Installer, Axle Tube Bushing. Use the General Equipment: Hydraulic Press

  2. Apply a new continuous bead of sealant to the differential housing cover as shown.

    Material: Motorcraft® Ultra Silicone Sealant / TA-29 (WSS-M4G323-A8)

  3. NOTE: Make sure that new bolts are installed.

    Install the front axle tube and the new bolts.

    Torque: Stage 1: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm) Stage 2: 40deg.

  4. Using the special tools, install the new axle shaft seal. Use Special Service Tool: 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle., 205-1052 Installer, Axle Seal.

  5. NOTE: Make sure that new component is installed.

    Start one end of the retainer in the groove and work it over the halfshaft and into the groove to prevent the retainer from over expanding.

  6. NOTE: Make sure that new bolts are installed.

    Install the front axle tube bushing support bracket and the bolt.

    Torque: 52 lb.ft (70 Nm)

  7. Install the front RH halfshafts. Refer to: Front Halfshaft RH .
  8. Fill the front differential. Refer to: Differential Draining and Filling .
  9. Install the wheel and tire. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
