Oil Pump: Removal

  1. Remove the crankshaft front seal. For additional information, refer to CRANKSHAFT FRONT SEAL .
  2. Install the engine front mount.

  3. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
  4. Detach the air conditioning (A/C) compressor from the bracket and secure it on the radiator crossmember.

  5. Remove the A/C compressor bracket (engine shown removed for clarity).

  6. Remove the intermediate shaft center bearing bracket.

  7. Remove the catalytic converter bracket (engine shown removed for clarity).

  8. Remove the oil pan. For additional information, refer to OIL PAN .
  9. Remove the lower crankcase-to-transmission bolts.

  10. CAUTION: Note the location of any spacer shims between the transaxle and the lower crankcase to aid installation. The spacer shims must be installed in the same location during oil pump installation.

  11. Remove the lower crankcase (engine shown removed for clarity).
    1. Remove the oil pick-up tube.
    2. Remove the lower crankcase retaining bolts.
    • Discard the gasket.
  12. Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner.

  13. Remove the oil pump (engine shown removed for clarity).
    • Discard the gasket.
