Spare Key Programming

NOTE: Spare key programming procedure requires 2 programmed PATS keys (referred to as first key and second key). The maximum number of keys that can be programmed to the system is 8. PATS PID NUMKEYS must be less than 8 before starting programming procedure.
  1. Using New Generation STAR (NGS) tester with service card, check PATS PID SPARE_KY. If SPARE_KY PID is set to ENABLE, go to next step. If SPARE_KY PID is set to DISABLE, reset to ENABLE. Enter SERVICE BAY FUNCTIONS and select PATS. Enter SECURITY ACCESS. This procedure will take 10 minutes to perform. When security access is gained, select SPARE KEY SWITCH ENABLE.
  2. Insert first key into ignition switch. Turn ignition switch from LOCK to RUN position. Keep in RUN position for 1-5 seconds. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove first key. Within 5 seconds insert second key into ignition switch.
  3. Turn ignition switch from LOCK to RUN position. Keep in RUN position for 1-5 seconds. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove second key. Within 10 seconds of removing second key, insert new unprogrammed key into ignition switch. Turn ignition switch from LOCK to RUN position.
  4. Theft indicator should illuminate for 3 seconds, then go out and vehicle should be able to start. If theft indicator flashes rapidly, anti-scan has been entered. Wait at least 30 seconds with key in RUN position, then restart procedure from step  2 . Repeat procedure from step  2 for each additional key.
