Test E: Speed Control Inoperative - No Flash Codes
- Check For Voltage To Servo/Actuator - Turn ignition off. Disconnect speed control servo/actuator connector C102 (located next to brake master cylinder). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between servo/actuator connector C102 terminals No. 7 and 10. See Figure . If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to step 4).
- Check Fuse - Turn ignition off. Check instrument panel fuse block fuse No. 6 (15-amp). If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, replace fuse. If fuse fails again, repair short to ground in Orange wire between instrument panel fuse block and speed control servo/actuator. Perform SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Check Servo/Actuator Ground Circuit - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and speed control servo/actuator connector C102 terminal No. 10. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Orange wire between instrument panel fuse block and speed control servo/actuator. Perform SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair Black wire between speed control servo/actuator and ground. Perform SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Check For Stuck Speed Control Switch - Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between speed control servo/actuator connector C102 terminals No. 5 and 10. See Figure . If no voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is present, go to step 13).
- Check Speed Control ON Switch Operation - Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between speed control servo/actuator connector C102 terminals No. 5 and 10 while pressing speed control ON switch. See Figure . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to step 7).
- Check Horn Operation - Press steering wheel horn button. If horn operates properly, go to step 9). If horn does not operate properly, see appropriate wiring diagram in STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article to continue diagnosis.
- Check Air Bag Sliding Contact - Disconnect air bag sliding contact connector C228 (located near base of steering column). Disconnect speed control switch connector C230 from steering wheel. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance across each of air bag sliding contact windings between terminals of air bag sliding contact connector C228 (male side) and speed control switch connector C230. If each resistance reading is .25-.50 ohm, go to next step. If each resistance reading is not .25-.50 ohm, replace air bag sliding contact and perform SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Check Light/Green Wire For Open - Disconnect speed control servo/actuator connector C102 (located next to brake master cylinder). Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between speed control servo/actuator connector C102 terminal No. 5 and air bag sliding contact connector C228 (female side). See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace speed control switches and perform SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair Light Green wire and perform SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Check Speed Control Switch Circuitry - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between speed control servo/actuator connector C102 terminals No. 5 and 6 while pressing speed control SET/ACCEL switch. See Figure . If resistance is 646-714 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 646-714 ohms, replace speed control switches and perform SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Check Speed Control Switch - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between speed control servo/actuator connector C102 terminals No. 5 and 6 while pressing speed control OFF switch. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace speed control switches and perform SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Check Speed Control Indicator Circuitry - Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between ground and speed control servo/actuator connector C102 terminal No. 1. See Figure . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to TEST F: SPEED CONTROL INDICATOR DOES NOT TURN ON.
- Check For Broken Or Binding Speed Control Cable - Remove speed control servo/actuator cable from speed control servo/actuator. Check for broken or binding cable by pulling on cable ball slug to ensure throttle moves freely. If speed control servo/actuator cable is okay, replace speed control servo/actuator and perform SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If speed control servo/actuator cable is not okay, replace speed control servo/actuator cable and perform SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Check Speed Control Switch Circuit - Disconnect speed control switch connector C230 from steering wheel. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between speed control servo/actuator connector C102 terminals No. 5 and 10. See Figure . If any voltage is present, go to next step. If no voltage is present, replace speed control switch and perform SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Check Light Green Wire For Short To Voltage - Disconnect air bag sliding contact connector C228 (located near base of steering column). Using a voltmeter, check voltage between speed control servo/actuator connector C102 terminals No. 5 and 10. See Figure . If any voltage is present, repair Light Green wire and perform SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no voltage is present, replace air bag sliding contact and perform SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
