Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Ford Probe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Before proceeding, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS  . Disable SRS. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  . Clockspring is part of multi-function switch and is not serviced separately. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL  .
  2. Remove four lower steering column shroud screws and separate upper and lower column shrouds. Remove ignition switch lock cylinder miniature light bulb from lower steering column shrouds. Remove three multi-function switch screws and disconnect switch electrical connectors. Slide multi-function switch off steering column. See Fig 1 .
  3. To install, reverse removal procedure. Torque screws to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Activate SRS. Check AIR BAG warning light for proper system function. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  .
