Wiper Circuit Test
- Turn ignition on. Inspect REAR WIPER fuse (15-amp). If fuse is okay, go to next step. Replace fuse if blown. If fuse blows again, repair short to ground in Blue/Green wire between fuse panel, wiper motor, and washer motor.
- Unplug wiper motor connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage at Blue/Green wire terminal of rear wiper harness connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open Blue/Green wire.
- Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between Black/Blue wire terminal of harness connector and ground while pressing and releasing rear wiper switch. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms with switch pressed, and greater than 10,000 ohms with switch released.
- If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, check for open Black/Blue wire (between rear wiper motor and rear wiper switch) or open Black wire (between rear wiper switch and ground). If wires are okay, test rear wiper switch. See WIPER/WASHER SWITCH TEST. Replace switch if it is defective.
- Unplug wiper motor connector. Apply battery voltage to Blue/Green wire terminal of motor, and ground Black/Blue wire terminal. Replace motor if it does not run.NOTE: All wires at motor connector are Black. To make trouble shooting easier, following test steps assign a suffix number to each wire and identify the wire to which it ultimately connects. To identify each wire, it will be necessary to trace it back to the connecting wire of appropriate color. Label each wire at motor connector once it is identified. See WIPER MOTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION table.WIPER MOTOR WIRE IDENTIFICATION
Wire Designation Wire Function Connects To Wire Color Black-1 Motor Feed (1) White/Purple Black-2 Motor Return (1) Tan/Orange Black-3 Motor Ground (2) Black (1) Through liftgate glass. (2) Through defroster grid. - Unplug wiper motor connector. Using fused jumper wire, connect battery voltage to Black-1 wire terminal of motor. Ground Black-2 wire terminal of motor. If motor runs, go to next step. Replace motor if it does not run.
- Turn ignition on. Check voltage at Black-1 wire terminal of harness connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open Black-1 wire or White/Purple wire to fuse block.
- Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between Black-2 wire terminal of harness connector and ground while pressing and releasing rear wiper switch. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms with switch pressed, and greater than 10,000 ohms with switch released.
- If resistance is as specified, test rear wiper switch. See WIPER/WASHER SWITCH TEST. Replace switch if defective. If resistance is not as specified, check for open Black-2 wire or Tan/Orange wire between rear wiper motor and rear wiper switch, or open Black wire between rear wiper switch and ground. If wires are okay, test rear wiper switch. See WIPER/WASHER SWITCH TEST. Replace switch if defective.
