Alternator - Models W/Internal Fan & Regulator: Description
The Motorcraft Integral Alternator-Regulator (IAR) system is equipped with an internally mounted fan and regulator/brush holder assembly. The voltage regulator automatically reduces regulated voltage when ambient temperature increases, so battery charging voltage is maintained at optimum level. Alternating current is rectified to direct current by 6 diodes. See Figure.
