Vehicle Stalls During Quick Test

  1. Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds. Install tachometer. Perform Engine Running Test and try to maintain engine speed of 2,000 RPM. If engine stalls, problem is not in EEC system. If engine does not stall, record Engine Running Test service codes and proceed with test.
  2. Check for vacuum leaks and correct as necessary. Check for codes 31, 33, 41 and 58. Ignore any other codes at this time. If no codes are displayed, perform the No Codes Displayed Test. If codes 31 and/or 33 are displayed, perform appropriate EGR Test. If code 41 is displayed, proceed to step 4). If code 58 is displayed, proceed to step 3).
  3. Disconnect grounded jumper wire from self-test connector. Start engine and run engine for 15 seconds. Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds. Inspect ISC motor for full extension. If motor shaft is extended 2" or more, problem is not in EEC system, perform normal engine diagnosis. If motor shaft is extended less than 2", perform RPM Test.
  4. Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds. Disconnect FBC solenoid connector. Disconnect grounded jumper wire from self-test connector. Start and run engine at 2,000 RPM for 2 minutes. Activate Engine Running Test. Check for code 41. If code 41 is not present, perform Fuel Mixture Test. If code 41 is present, check for vacuum leaks and correct as necessary.
