Test U - Wiggle Test

  1. Service Code 21. Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds. Disconnect all self-test equipment. Drive vehicle and attempt to simulate complaint. After completing drive test, perform Key On - Engine Off Test. If code 21 appears, check thermostat operation. If okay, replace ECT sensor and repeat Quick Test. If no code 21, testing is complete.
  2. Service Code 22. Connect vacuum pump to MAP sensor. Slowly apply 25 in. Hg. vacuum to sensor. Slowly bleed off vacuum. Lightly tap on sensor, and wiggle connector. service code is indicated (high VOM deflection), disconnect and inspect connectors. If good, replace MAP sensor and repeat Quick Test. If no code, go to step 11).
  3. Service Code 31. Connect vacuum pump to EGR valve. Slowly apply 10 in. Hg to valve, then bleed off vacuum. Lightly tap on EVP sensor, and wiggle connector. If a service code is indicated (high VOM deflection), disconnect and inspect connectors. If good, replace EVP sensor and repeat Quick Test. If no codes, go to step 11).
  4. Service Code 41. Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds. Disconnect all self-test equipment. Drive vehicle and attempt to simulate complaint. After completing drive test, perform Key On - Engine Off Test. If code 41 appears, go to step 5). If no code 41, testing complete.
  5. Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds. Perform Engine Running Test. If code 41 is present, proceed to Fuel Mixture Test, step 2). If no code 41, problem is not CEC related. Check fuel system.
  6. Service Code 51. Lightly tap on ECT sensor, and wiggle connector. If a service code is indicated (high VOM deflection), disconnect and inspect connectors. If good, replace ECT sensor and repeat Quick Test. If no codes, go to step 11).
  7. Service Code 54. Observe voltmeter. Lightly tap on ACT sensor and wiggle connector. If a service code is indicated (high VOM deflection), disconnect and inspect connectors. If good, replace ACT sensor and repeat Quick Test. If no codes, go to step 11).
  8. Service Code 61. Re-perform step 6). Results are the same.
  9. Service Code 63. Move throttle slowly to wide open position. Release throttle slowly to closed position. Lightly tap on TP sensor and wiggle connectors. If a service code is indicated, disconnect and inspect connectors. If good, replace TP sensor and repeat Quick Test. If no codes, go to step 11).
  10. Service Code 64. Perform step 7). Results are the same.
  11. Observe voltmeter. Using figure number from step that brought you here, grasp harness as close to sensor connector as possible. Wiggle, shake or bend a small section of CEC system harness while working toward bulkhead. Do same to harness from bulkhead to processor. If a service code is indicated, isolate fault and make necessary repairs. Repeat Quick Test. If no codes, go to next step.
  12. Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds. Disconnect processor 60 pin connector. Inspect connector for damage, corrosion, etc. Repair as required and repeat Quick Test. If unable to duplicate fault, but problem still exists, drive vehicle and check for continuous codes. Repair as required and repeat Quick Test.
