Test L - Air Management System Test (Code 44)

  1. Verify proper vacuum line routing to the TAB/TAD solenoids and to the bypass/diverter valve. Check for kinked, blocked or disconnected vacuum lines or air hoses. If any problems are found, repair as necessary and repeat Quick Test. Otherwise, proceed with test.
  2. Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds. Disconnect TAB solenoid connector and measure solenoid resistance. Disconnect TAD solenoid connector and measure solenoid resistance. If either resistance is less than 50 ohms or more than 110 ohms, replace TAB/TAD solenoid assembly and repeat Quick Test. If both resistances are between 50 and 110 ohms, reconnect solenoids and proceed with test.
  3. Turn ignition off and wait for 10 seconds. Connect voltmeter negative lead to self-test output connector and positive lead to battery positive post. Turn ignition on. Run Quick Test until the completion of the Continuous Codes. Voltmeter will read 0 volts. Depress and release throttle. Voltage reading should increase. If voltage increased, leave voltmeter connected and proceed with test. If voltage reading did not increase, depress and release throttle again. If voltage still does not increase, perform Output State Not Functioning Test.
  4. Connect voltmeter negative lead to circuit 190 and positive lead to TAB solenoid circuit 361. Depress and release throttle while observing voltmeter. Connect voltmeter negative lead to circuit 200 and positive lead to TAD solenoid circuit 361. Depress and release throttle while observing voltmeter. If both outputs cycle on and off (high to low voltage), proceed to step 5). If either output does not cycle on and off, proceed to step 7).
  5. Install vacuum pump to TAB solenoid vacuum supply port and install a vacuum gauge to output port. Apply and maintain a vacuum at supply port. Observe vacuum gauge while depressing and releasing throttle. Repeat procedure for TAD solenoid. If either vacuum output does not cycle on and off, replace solenoid assembly and repeat Quick Test. If both vacuum outputs cycle on and off, proceed with test.
  6. With vacuum lines to TAB/TAD solenoids disconnected, start engine and check for vacuum. If vacuum is present, EEC system is ok, check Thermactor pump. If no vacuum is present, repair vacuum source blockage or leak and repeat Quick Test.
  7. Turn ignition on. Connect voltmeter positive lead to circuit 361 at TAB solenoid and negative lead to ground. Measure voltage. Repeat procedure at TAD solenoid. If either voltage is less than 10.5 volts, repair open circuit in harness and repeat Quick Test. If both voltage readings are more than 10.5 volts, proceed with test.
  8. Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds. Disconnect processor and inspect both 60 pin connectors. Connect breakout box to harness. Leave processor disconnected. Measure continuity from circuit 190 to breakout box pin 51 and circuit 200 to breakout box pin 11. If either resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair wiring harness and repeat Quick Test. If both resistances are less than 5 ohms, proceed with test.
  9. Turn ignition on. With TAB/TAD solenoids disconnected, measure voltage from breakout box pin 51 to ground and from pin 11 to ground. If both voltages are less than 1 volt, replace processor and repeat Quick Test. If either voltage is 1 volt or more, repair short to power and repeat Quick Test. If code 44 is still present, replace processor.
